Get quick answers to common tire questions: from sizing and selection to when it’s time for a replacement.
Your vehicle’s manufacturer provides a recommendation for the right size tires for your car or truck. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on a placard in the driver’s door jamb. Use our Tire Finder online to quickly identify the best tire size for your vehicle.
Pay attention to tread depth, tire age, and degradation that could be signs you need new tires. Tread depth at or below 2/32” is considered worn out. Watch out for tire wear indicators or use the penny test to check your tires. On average, new tires can last between 50,000 and 60,000 miles or up to 10 years. You can check your tire’s individual tire mileage warranty to compare how long different tires are expected to last.
Choosing between all-season and winter tires will depend on your climate and driving conditions. All-season tires are designed for rain, dry roads, and light snow.
Winter tires are made for cold conditions and should be used when temperatures are consistently low. They stay flexible in the cold and provide better traction on snow and ice, making them a safer choice for harsh winter weather.
A new set of tires can last about 5 to no more than 10 years, depending on your driving style. The type of tire you choose, driving habits, weather conditions, and tire care can all affect how long tires last. To get an idea of your tires’ expected lifespan, you can check their specific tire mileage warranty.
To help extend your tire lifespan, make sure to keep tires properly inflated, get regular tire rotations, and check your alignment so tires wear evenly.
